Root Canal Treatment

A root canal is used to save a tooth that is severely decayed or infected within the tooth’s pulp or nerve. The pulp is the soft tissue located deep within the tooth. When it becomes infected, it can cause a lot of pain and sensitivity.

The procedure involves removing the infected or inflamed pulp, which is the soft tissue inside the tooth, and cleaning and shaping the inside of the root canal. After the root canal is cleaned, the dentist fills the space with a material called gutta-percha, seals the tooth, and may place a crown or filling on top to restore its functionality.

Root canals are necessary to treat severe tooth decay, trauma, or infection that has spread to the pulp, which can cause pain, swelling, and even tooth loss if left untreated. They can also prevent the need for tooth extraction and preserve the natural tooth, which is important for maintaining oral health and function.
