“Knocked Out” Teeth
A “knocked out” tooth or displaced tooth is a dental emergency that requires immediate attention. If your tooth has been displaced due to a fall or accident, there are certain steps you can take to help ensure your tooth can be reinserted and preserved by our dentists. Below are some recommended steps:
- If your tooth was displaced from its socket, first make sure the immediate trauma site is taken care of. Try to control the bleeding.
- Then, pick it up by the crown, or the top, of the tooth and try to avoid touching the roots. Do not scrub the tooth or remove any tissue still attached to it.
- Put your tooth in a small container of Hank’s Balanced Salt Solution or in a cup of milk. The solution/milk will keep your tooth moist and strong until you arrive to the dentist.
- Call our dentists immediately! There is a very small time frame in which a tooth can be inserted back into its socket. If we miss that window, the prognosis of the tooth drops dramatically and we may not be able to save the tooth.
At Precision Dental, we understand that dental emergencies can occur at inconvenient times. When you visit our dental office, we’ll take the time to examine your tooth before recommending the best treatment solution for you.
